Monday Memo: M's win series … Seahawks catch Fat Rabbit … Mayoral poll
National Weather Service forecast

Who’s “Fat Rabbit?” Speaking of sports, we couldn’t pass up reading this headline on the Seahawks blog regarding an NFL draft pick: More on “Fat Rabbit” and the rest of the Seahawks’ seventh-round draft picks. Jared “Fat Rabbit” Smith” was one of the players taken in the seventh round. To see why they call him Fat Rabbit, read this story.
West Seattle apartment fire: Some three dozen people were evacuated because of a fire about 2:30 a.m. today. They were eventually allowed to return, except for the people who lived in the apartment where the fire started, apparently in a stove, according to KIRO-TV.
Seven people who want Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn’s job are scheduled to meet in a big forum between 6-8 tonight at South Seattle Community College, Georgetown Campus, 6737 Corson Ave. S. Do you think any of them will bring up some of hizzoner’s missteps? What? He’s had a bit of a rocky tenure, right? How interested are you in the Seattle mayoral race? Vote in our poll.
And speaking of public servants … Is anyone surprised that the Legislature is going into special session? We’re not. Among other things, an agreement on tougher DUI laws has yet to be finalized.
Snowmobiler killed on Mount Adams: He was just 35 and from the Goldendale area. His snowmobile went over a 10-foot snow bank, and he landed on rocks. He wasn’t found for about an hour and couldn’t be revived, according to the Yakima County Sheriff’s office.
Five dead in B.C. crash: The dead, three adults and two children, were in a car hit by a minivan in Surrey . The impact ripped the car in two. The RCMP said the minivan ran a red light. Surrey is southeast of Vancouver, B.C., not far from the U.S.-Canadian border. The names of the victims have yet to be released.

JaMarcus Russell: Lost 27 pounds, not ‘breathing like a fat man’

With his pro day a week away, give or take, JaMarcus Russell says he’s no longer “breathing like a fat man.”
The 2007 No. 1 overall pick, whose comeback try is being chronicled in Bleacher Report videos, says he was 315 pounds when he began working out more than two months ago and is down to 288, with 270 the goal.
“Through the first couple weeks I could barely make it through the workout. … It was crazy,” Russell said, in a not-so-crazy comment.
“We go in to do the warm-up and here I am breathing like a fat man. So now I’m breathing pretty good and able to stand up on my own two feet.”
At the self-proclaimed halfway point of his latest comeback attempt, the 6-foot-6 Russell said his “endurance is getting better, everything is that much better.”
He and his trainers, led by former quarterback Jeff Garcia at the TEST Academy in San Diego, plan to hold a pro day on or about April 10. Reportedly, one of his targets will be Larry Fitzgerald, who has spent the last few years trying to help bad quarterbacks.
Russell hopes to convince a team to invite him to training camp. He last threw a pass in an NFL game on Jan. 3, 2010, the end of his three-year Raiders’ career.

Baltimore Ravens cheerleader barred from Super Bowl for being ‘too fat?’
BALTIMORE – A Baltimore Ravens veteran cheerleader is being benched from heading to Super Bowl XLVII for what she says is being “too fat.”
Courtney Lenz, 23, has been a Ravens cheerleader for five seasons and did not receive an invitation to cheer her team on this Sunday.
The reason? According to Lenz, it’s because she gained 2 pounds and was being penalized for her weight gain.
Fans have rallied in defense of Lenz and have started an online petition to allow her to cheer at the big game.
“I wouldn’t even have reached out and let fans know if I didn’t think it was clearly wrong,” Lenz told ABC News. “I’m just devastated by the whole situation. This was very unexpected… I didn’t even think there would be a chance of me not going with being a five-year veteran.”
Lenz started cheering for the Ravens when she was a freshman in college and has been a part of the squad for five years. When she finished school she started a marketing job and found it difficult to continue with the schedule leading to her announcement of retirement in early January, according to ABC News.
Despite her announcement, Lenz believes that she should be allowed to cheer at the Super Bowl with her team because she has put five years of her life into it.
“People want to burn their jerseys and don’t want to support the [Baltimore] Ravens anymore,” one commenter said after the Ravens chose not to invite 23-year-old Courtney Lenz to the Super Bowl, according to ABC News.
The NFL had a different take on the controversy, telling ABC News that you are not ‘entitled’ to cheer at the Super Bowl. Only 32 cheerleaders out of the 60-member squad were invited to the game Sunday, and Lenz simply did not make the cut along with 27 other girls.
“As set by the NFL, we are permitted to bring 32 cheerleaders to the Super Bowl. Our selection process was based upon three criteria: seniority, performance ability and personal conduct throughout the season. As much as we would like to take the whole team, we are unable to do so, due to parameters set by the NFL,” spokeswoman Heather Harness, said in a statement to ABC News .
Lenz has apparently accepted the hard fact that she will not be attending.
“Originally I would have loved to go to the Super Bowl, but at this point it looks like it’s not going to happen,” she concluded to ABC News. “I received an email on Sunday saying I need to turn in my uniform. I can’t say I didn’t expect it…”
