What’s On Tonight: Fat Schmidt And Nick Lose Their V-Cards – Uproxx

New Girl (Fox, 9 p.m.) — As Josh alluded to earlier, on tonight’s episode of New Girl, the whole gang reveals how they lost their virginity in a series of flashbacks, which can only mean one thing: THE RETURN OF FAT SCHMIDT. Fat Schmidt and Fat Betty and Fat Monica from Friends should totally have a fat orgy.

Grimm (NBC, 10 p.m.) — NBC has moved Grimm to Tuesdays for the rest of the season because why not? NBC already preempted it for three months while it was on Fridays, so why not move it? Don’t worry: Audiences will follow a show anywhere. Just ask Happy Endings. Anyway, in tonight’s episode, some guy questions the existence of aliens, which is just silly? There are already fairy-tale creatures and other demons, why would there be aliens, too?

Splash (ABC, 8 p.m.) — There will be a mystery celebrity diver appearance on tonight’s episode, and the only way I’d watch is if the mystery diver is FAT SCHMIDT.

The Mindy Project (Fox, 9:30 p.m.) — In the last episode of The Mindy Project, which was in what … March? Danny’s wife was revealed. It was supposed to be a big surprise, but it came during the end credits, and about 5 seconds before she was revealed, her name appeared. I was like, “I don’t remember Chloe Sevigny in this episode,” then BAM. There she is. GOOD STORY. Tonight’s episode is all about her.

Tosh.0 (Comedy Central, 10 p.m.) — This is the network’s highest rated show. I don’t really care, except that it reminds me that Daniel Tosh was mentioned in talks about who might replace Jimmy Fallon, which reminds me that no one is talking about the late night wars anymore. Are they ever going to name a Fallon successor?

Murder. Mystery. Amanda Knox Speaks (ABC, 10 p.m.) — God.

Hunger Games (Netflix, Anytime) — That’s fun, if you haven’t seen it yet, and a rare instance in which Netflix actually has a decent new(ish) movie in its catalogue.

LATE NIGHT LISTINGS: Dr. Phil is on Dave; Cher is on Leno; Jon Favreau is on Kimmel; Ferguson has Larry the Cable Guy (?); Winona Ryder is on Fallon (drool); Robert Downey Jr.is on The Daily Show: Bryan Fuller stops by Carson Daly; and Ke$ha is on Conan.

Jennifer Lawrence: I’m considered a fat actress in Hollywood

Jennifer Lawrence says she’s considered overweight by Hollywood standards, but she has no interest in starving herself for a role.

In an interview with Elle magazine, the “Hunger Games” actress conceded she does not fit the Hollywood standard of beauty.

“In Hollywood, I’m obese,” the 22-year-old said. ”I’m considered a fat actress.”

She said she doesn’t crash diet for roles and doesn’t want to send that message to her young fans, CNN reported Friday.

“I eat like a caveman. I’ll be the only actress who doesn’t have anorexia rumors,” Lawrence said.

“I don’t want little girls to be like, ‘Oh, I want to look like [her 'Hunger Games' character] Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner,” she said. “That’s something I was really conscious of during training [for the movie], when you’re trying to get your body to look exactly right. I was trying to get my body to look fit and strong — not thin and underfed.”

Lawrence said her boyfriend, “X-Men” co-star Nicholas Hoult, admires her body as it is.

“He’s my favorite person to be around and makes me laugh harder than anybody,” she said.

"Fat Betty" Backlash for Mad Men?!

Mad Men, January Jones Michael Yarish/AMC

So, Betty Draper Francis put on some weight in 1966. So, what?

So, as you might expect from a world where Jennifer Lawrence‘s Hunger Games‘ curves rate unkind words, the knives are out—and the TV ratings are down!?

SPOILER CHAT: Scoop on Mad Men, Glee, more

Yes, but not by much.

Sunday’s latest episode was one of cable’s top shows of the week, with 2.9 million viewers.

That’s off a little from last week’s fifth-season premiere, but overall meant there were plenty of eyeballs ogling, if you’ll pardon the expression, “Fat Betty.”

The character’s storyline development was spurred by actress January Jones‘ real-life pregnancy.

“Looks like Betty maybe already ate a baby or two,” went one typical comment on the A.V. Club’s episode-recap discussion thread.

“All I could think about while watching Betty last night was ‘haha betty got fat,’” went another.

And then there was the inevitable: “I’m a terrible person Betty Draper is so fat, Jabba the Hutt said ‘DAYUM!’”

If the Internet is not always kind, then at least TV viewers are more accepting, Nielsen-wise, of varying body types than of a show that “screwed its audience over and over again” last year.

Translation: Mad Men‘s Sunday lead-in, The Killing (1.8 million viewers), was off a lot (33 percent) from that show’s season-one premiere.

Other TV ratings winners—and losers, per the latest broadcast and cable rankings:

Kids’ Choice Awards (6.2 million viewers): The good news is it was cable’s No. 1 show. The bad news is it registered its smallest audience in five years. The troubling question for Justin Bieber is: Is the attraction in seeing him slimed just about over?

Academy of Country Music Awards (13.1 million viewers): The ratings were about even with last year; the Taylor Swift train rolls right along.

Game of Thrones (3.9 million viewers): The HBO giant was the anti-Killing: Up 74 percent—74 percent!—over its season-one opener. No cable drama was bigger.

Punk’d (3.2 million viewers): The Ashton Kutcher prank series took five years off, and went straight back into cable’s Top 20.

The Voice (12 million viewers): The war with American Idol is off for now, as this show has been off for the past month. Last night’s episode fell to an estimated 10.7 million viewers.

Whitney (4.1 million viewers) and Are You There, Chelsea? (3.1 million viewers):  The comedies closed out their freshman seasons on the low side. So, does Two and a Half Men’s co-creator and freelance TV critic get the last laugh? Uh, no.

Here’s a complete look at the top 10 most-watched broadcast shows, per the latest Nielsen rankings:

  1. NCIS, 18.6 million viewers
  2. Dancing With the Stars (Monday), 18 million viewers
  3. American Idol (Wednesday), 17.9 million viewers
  4. NCAA men’s basketball tournament (Ohio State vs. Kansas), 16.6 million viewers
  5. American Idol (Thursday), 15.9 million viewers
  6. Dancing With the Stars (Tuesday), 15.7 million viewers
  7. NCIS: Los Angeles, 14.8 million viewers
  8. Person of Interest, 14.6 million viewers
  9. The Big Bang Theory, 14 million viewers
  10. The Mentalist, 13.6 million viewers

Fat-cat owners aren’t doing pets any favours

********

I’m flummoxed by reports that audiences are storming out of cinemas screening The
Hunger Games
, apparently shocked by the violence of the 12A-rated film.
What were they expecting from a movie about children who are forced to fight
to the death? Far more disturbing than the book’s plot are the comments by a
select band of Hunger Games viewers who are angry that black actors have
been used to portray characters they had imagined to be white. A website has
collated all the racist comments that have been made on Twitter, which is
fast becoming the platform du jour for bigots. In fact, I’m beginning
to think that much like films, a classification system should be applied to
tweets, ranging from “stupid” to “downright idiotic”.

********

In New York, the Department of Education has released a list of topics that
are banned from exam papers, in case they offend anyone. So dinosaurs are
out (might rub creationists up the wrong way), as are bodily functions
(could upset the squeamish), while Hallowe’en should be avoided due to its
links with paganism. Also not to be mentioned: birthdays, as Jehovah’s
Witnesses do not celebrate them. This reminds me of my 31st last year, which
I celebrated in Norway with a bunch of blokes I had sailed to the Arctic
Circle with. When one whipped out a guitar and began singing “Happy
Birthday”, two members of the party turned up their noses and walked away. I
later discovered they were Witnesses. Clearly, while we must be sensitive to
their religion, it’s fine for them to offend the rest of us.

‘Hunger Games’ set for fat profits

Source: USA TODAY

Lionsgate stock is flying at an all-time high thanks to huge buzz for the upcoming The Hunger Games film, which opens in 4,000 theaters on Friday. Expectations for the movie to post a bigger opening than the first Twilight film drove the stock up as much as 9.5% higher on Monday morning alone. The film is expected to gross between $70 million and $100 million at the box office opening weekend.

All the ticket pre-sale numbers point to a massive opening.

Fandango says it’s already sold out more than 1,000 showings, tracking ahead of Twilight‘s debut. www.Movietickets.com sold out about 900 screenings, half of which are for midnight screenings, which points to a devoted fan base. And the overall box office should get a boost from IMAX showings, which are a few bucks more expensive than screenings in a regular theater. Movietickets.com reports that 13%thirteen percent of all tickets sold are for IMAX screenings.

The massive buzz for The Hunger Games could be a game changer for Lionsgate ( LGF), which is working to build itself into a young adult powerhouse. It is planning three more movies based on The Hunger Games trilogy, and has three other young adult book series in development. Its acquisition of Summit, which produced the record-breaking Twilight series will be valuable in producing and marketing to target this demographic.

Lionsgate isn’t the only company to benefit from the movie’s big opening — publisher Scholastic ( SCHL) has gotten a boost in a spike in book sales. And even Amazon ( AMZN) is seeing an impact — the company reports that the trilogy’s author Suzanne Collins is now Amazon Kindle’s best-selling author.

The big loser in Hunger Games‘ expected success? Carl Icahn. He sold his one-third stake of Lionsgate — some 44 million shares — for $7 each back in August. Now the company is trading at about double that. Based on the stock’s current valuation he’s lost out on about $300 million in value.
