You just don’t get a 20-year rap career by doing the same old same. When Fat Joe da Gangsta dropped his debut album Represent in 1993, he was about the twice the size he is now and a rap murder machine. It’s a far cry from the smooth-talking, hit-making rapper that he has become.

“I just feel I’m getting better,” Joe said when he appeared on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday. “You gotta reinvent yourself. I just feel like I’m getting better when I play with flows, a lot of rappers can’t even change their flows.”

Over the course of the past year, Joe has linked with Kanye West (“Pride N Joy”), Chris Brown (“Another Round”) — both for the first time in his career — for some pretty impressive results. On Thursday, Joey Crack found another new collaborator in Future. Together they created “Love Me Long Time,” an auto-tune laced song for the ladies.

Joe says he is just having fun, but his fellow Bronx, New York, MC French Montana insists that the Terror Squad leader isn’t giving himself enough credit. “You gotta stop being humble now. Too many hits, all right, too many hits. Fat Joe been dropping hits since he started,” Montana interjected. “Don’t be humble no more, you gotta let them know.”

While it is true that Joe has amassed an impressive list of singles like “Lean Back,” “What’s Luv?” and “We Thuggin’,” he doesn’t always hit the mark. His 2012 Internet release “Instagram That Hoe” didn’t go over so well. “I wish somebody would’ve told me, ‘Joe don’t do it.’ I played it for everybody in the studio, they was like, ‘Yo, Joe that’s hot,’ ” Crack said confirming that he got the thumbs up from not only DJ Khaled, but producers Cool Dre, Juicy J and Rick Ross.

“[The] next day it was like assassination,” Joe said laughing about fans’ negative reaction to the track. “I thought it was fun. I have no rules.”

Fat Joe is wearing his heart on his sleeve for his new single, “Love Me Long Time,” which arrives following his Wiz Khalifa and Teyana Taylor-assisted track “Ballin’.”

Joey Crack dotes on his woman but questions if she’ll be around even if the funds are not. “Papi love you long time, girl/ Smokin’ on Jamaican, that’s that uptown girl/ Gave you keys to that drop/ 100 G’s just to shop/ Bal Harbour to the harbor diving off of them yachts,” he raps.

Future adds his signature Auto-Tuned croon on the chorus and then serves a verse questioning his lady’s intentions. “When that money get low you started trippin’/ Now you walkin’ out the door and you’re flippin’/ Even my mama said you wasn’t gonna love me from the beginning/ ‘Cause I wasn’t winnin’/ I didn’t listen/ Could you love me for me,” he delivers.

Currently Fat Joe is working on his 11th studio album. The effort is a follow-up to 2010′s “The Darkside, Vol.1.”

You, a well-meaning Christian, sign on to Facebook, only to see an overweight deacon from your church downing the super-sized everything at the local fast-food joint. Are you going to comment on his wall and tell him that he’s a fat-ass and is going right from the doughnut shop to hell because he is a glutton?

You would have some biblical backing if you did want to make such an accusation. Proverbs 28:7 declares, “He who keeps the law is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.” And if that is not enough evidence for you, read Proverbs 23:2, which proclaims, “Put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.”

Chance are that you wouldn’t think of making this type of comment. After all, he’s a deacon, and you’re a righteous saint. Chances are that you’d give him a thumbs up or remind him to save some for you. You may even end your post with a smiley face (which, of course, is the universal sign that you condone it).

But if this same deacon had posted a picture of himself eating a juicy burger along with his gay partner, it would be a completely different story. I can only imagine the colorful statements, hurtful names and scripture passages that might be quoted on our hypothetical Facebook wall. There would certainly be one or two Christians telling him that he is surely going to hell.

Unfortunately this scenario isn’t fantasy. It’s played out every day on Facebook, in the halls of ours schools and in the pews of our churches.

If you consider the Bible the authority on how to live your life, then you should try to keep all the laws. Leviticus 11:10 says, “But anything in the seas or the rivers that has not fins and scales, of the swarming creatures in the waters and of the living creatures that are in the waters, is detestable to you.” This means that your lard-ass shouldn’t be eating shellfish at all. Maybe our fatty deacon should cut back on shellfish too.

“Neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woolen come upon thee,” says Leviticus 19:19. Yes, the Bible forbids wearing clothes made out of a mix of wool and linen. Maybe church greeters should start checking clothing labels at the door. Anyone wearing wool and linen should be ridiculed before being sent to the prayer room to be witnessed to.

I am a Christian and don’t condone negative or degrading talk no matter what the situation (except in this tongue-in-cheek blog post, of course) or who the recipient may be, but I’m amazed by how many Christians do. They hold their tongues and wink at some sins and sinners, but they don’t feel any restraint when it comes to judging the gay community.

Whether or not you believe that homosexuality is acceptable in the eyes of God is not relevant and should not affect the way you behave. Even if someone believes that gay people will go to hell, they do not have the right to use this belief to bring shame and hurt to others. Many gay people have turned away from God because Christians have convinced them that He doesn’t and won’t accept them. Just as passionately as I believe in rights for everyone, I believe that God loves everyone. Pleasing God is all about how you treat people. This is where most so-called Christians miss the mark by a long shot.

God loves everyone, and in the end He is going to judge us by who we shared His message with and by our method of doing so. Though there are many people who are trying so hard to play at being Christians, many miss what God truly wants them to do: love others. Chances are that few people still reading this blog post at this point fall into this category, because most such people would have quickly fled upon seeing all the cuss words.

Thankfully, there are many followers of Christ who do embrace all people and love them unconditionally. If you are one of them, thank you. If you aren’t, please pause before you speak and weigh your comments and words against the Bible. Matthew 5:22 says, “But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.”

Not many parents would teach their impressionable young children to go up to someone on the street and call them fat. Why? Because not only would it not be culturally acceptable, but it would hurt that person. It’s likely that they would be wounded deeply and might cry or be embarrassed. Some might even develop an eating disorder as a result.

So why is it that its acceptable to teach kids hate and bitterness toward members of the gay community? Anti-gay bullying is prevalent in our country and can result in low self-esteem and even suicidal thoughts in the victim. Let’s face the facts: It’s most likely that gay people were born that way.

Life is too short to harbor anger, bitterness or malice toward anyone. Just let people live. If someone is gay, it doesn’t affect you at all. If someone is fat, that doesn’t affect you at all. But if your words toward others make other people unhappy, then that affects everyone. Don’t let your words make peoples’ lives miserable.

By Katy Stech

The Texas company that once held the license to sell the Zerona fat-melting laser machines, which offers incision-free liposuction in the offices of cosmetic surgeons, has filed for bankruptcy protection to try to keep its grip on its recently terminated licensing agreement with the laser’s manufacturer.

Primcogent Solutions LLC filed for Chapter 11 protection on Monday, claiming that the laser’s manufacturer misled company officials into thinking that roughly 600 lasers were out in the market and generating revenue when the two groups entered into a licensing and distribution deal in late 2011.

Primcogent later found that about 200 of those Zerona lasers, which have made the rounds on daytime television on the Rachael Ray and Dr.Oz shows, were not generating revenue, according to papers filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Fort Worth, Texas.

Some of the lasers were still being demoed by doctors who melted a patient’s fat cells by pointing thin, red beams at a their waist, hips and thighs. (In euphemized industry-speak, the fat-liquefying procedure is referred to as “body contouring,” and it typically costs $1,500.)

Primcogent officials said in court papers that the Zerona laser users later began returning them sooner than they expected, making it tough for the company to make payments on a $12 million loan and the royalty payments owed to the laser’s manufacturer, Erchonia Corp. PrimCogent was notified in February that it had failed to make payments under the agreement or make required sales quotas, according to court papers.

After Erchonia officials cut off the licensing agreement for nonpayment, Primcogent said that the manufacturer has been contacting its customers “falsely stating that the [company] is going out of business and no longer has any rights to sell the products.” Primcogent officials asked Bankruptcy Judge D. Michael Lynn to use his judicial power to stop that while the company attempts to reorganize.

Erchonia’s attorneys have fired back, arguing that Primcogent shouldn’t be able to use Chapter 11 protection as a shield.

“There is no dispute that Primcogent failed to make the required payments,” the manufacturer’s attorneys said in court papers. “The heart of this dispute is a combination of contract and patent law. There is nothing to this dispute that arises out of the Bankruptcy Code.”

In court papers, Primcogent also said that Erchonia officials have dragged their feet in getting U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval to sell the Lunula toe fungus laser technology, which was included in the 2011 licensing agreement so that Primcogent could avoid being “a one-product company.”

Prescriptions of Amarin‘s Vascepa are on a path to the moon. The company was nice enough to include a graph plotting prescriptions since the lipid-lowering drug launched at the end of January. (You can download a larger version here.)

Source: Amarin.

That trend line looks great. If Vascepa were an oncology drug that costs $10,000 per month, the drug would be approaching blockbuster status. But it isn’t. Not even close. Amarin averaged about $223 for each prescription, recognizing a grand total of $2.34 million in revenue during the first quarter.

Let’s extrapolate
Prescriptions grew 62% from March to April. If Amarin were able to keep that month-over-month growth pace, we’d see about 19,100 prescriptions in May and 31,000 in June for total of around 62,000 prescriptions in the second quarter. Based on the revenue per prescription in the first quarter, that would only bring in under $14 million.

You’ve got to start somewhere, but that’s still a low base to be working off of. If you extrapolate out for a couple of quarters, you can get decent sales down the road, but I don’t know how long Amarin can keep up this hyper-growth rate. It’s bound to slow as the company finishes picking all the low-hanging fruit.

By comparison, GlaxoSmithKline‘s fish oil Lovaza racked up $229 million in the U.S. in the first quarter. There’s certainly potential for Amarin to get there, eventually, but it’ll take a while. Quite a bit of Lovaza’s sales come from off-label use in patients that only have moderately high triglyceride levels. Those patients could use Vascepa, but I suspect that doctors will want a little more experience using the drug before prescribing it off label.

By that point, hopefully Amarin will have its data for moderately high triglyceride levels on the label. The request to expand Vascepa’s label has already been submitted to the Food and Drug Administration, which should make its decision on or before Dec. 20.

There are 10 times as many patients with moderately high triglyceride levels than there are with extremely high triglyceride levels covered by the current indication. That’s a huge opportunity, but it also offers a challenge. Amarin will need help selling the drug from a large pharma partner to maximize the opportunity.

Merck — which sells Zetia and its combination products, Vytorin and recently approved Liptruzet — seems like the most obvious choice. AstraZeneca might also be a good fit since it sells Crestor, a cholesterol-lowering statin that could be combined with Vascepa in a single pill.

But one has to assume that Amarin was in talks with Merck, AstraZeneca and/or other pharma companies after Vascepa’s initial approval; management said as much. Not much has changed since then — $2.34 million in sales and a few extra patents aside — so Amarin might have to lower its expectations to get a deal done.

FRIDAY, May 24 (HealthDay News) — Two out of five medical students have an unconscious bias against obese people, a new study found.

The study authors, from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, noted the anti-fat stigma is a significant barrier to the treatment of obesity. They concluded that teaching medical students to recognize this bias is necessary to improve care for the millions of Americans who are overweight or obese.

“Bias can affect clinical care and the doctor-patient relationship, and even a patient’s willingness or desire to go see their physician, so it is crucial that we try to deal with any bias during medical school,” study lead author Dr. David Miller, associate professor of internal medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, said in a center news release. “Previous research has shown that on average, physicians have a strong anti-fat bias similar to that of the general population. Doctors are more likely to assume that obese individuals won’t follow treatment plans, and they [doctors] are less likely to respect obese patients than average weight patients.”

The study, which took place over the course of three years, involved more than 300 third-year medical students. Although all of the students attended a medical school in the southeastern United States from 2008 through 2011, they were originally from many different parts of the United States as well as 12 other countries.

Using a computer program called the Weight Implicit Association Test, the researchers were able to measure the participants’ unconscious preferences for fat or thin people. The medical students also completed a survey to determine if they were aware of any weight bias they had.

The study revealed that 39 percent of the medical students had a moderate to strong unconscious anti-fat bias. Seventeen percent had a moderate to strong anti-thin bias. The researchers added that less than 25 percent of the students were aware of their biases.

“Because anti-fat stigma is so prevalent and a significant barrier to the treatment of obesity, teaching medical students to recognize and mitigate this bias is crucial to improving the care for the two-thirds of American adults who are now overweight or obese,” Miller said. “Medical schools should address weight bias as part of a comprehensive obesity curriculum.”

The study was published online May 23 in the Journal of Academic Medicine.

Really? Really. Conventional furniture is part of the obesity problem, a growing number of scientists now say, but with the right changes it can be part of the solution.

Rising to the challenge, designers are creating new styles of furniture, some meant to encourage perpetual motion and some meant to discourage perpetual eating.

PHOTOS: 17 ways to fight the inertia, step by step

“With all our products, we try to invite users to move more,” says David Kahl, owner of Ergo Depot, which sells furniture online (www.ergodepot.com/) and in stores in Portland, Ore., and San Francisco. “When you keep your body moving, that’s how you fight obesity.”

Many of these products involve desks and how you sit at them — or don’t. You can walk at a treadmill desk, pedal at a desk cycle, or alternate between sitting and standing at an aptly termed sit-stand desk.

And when you sit, you can do so on “active sitting” chairs, i.e., chairs meant to prevent you from simply sitting still. There are models to kneel on, perch on, and sit forward, sideways and backward on. “We have chairs where your muscles are engaged just to keep your balance,” Kahl says. “They keep you moving without even being aware of it.”

PHOTOS: Standing desks: Designs to stay on your feet

True, such options may not float everybody’s boat. “Just because you have a treadmill in a work station doesn’t mean someone will use it,” says Shawn Green, vice president of design and product marketing for KI Furniture in Green Bay, Wis. (www.ki.com). “And some active sitting chairs are very complicated to use.”

Green thinks furniture should be designed and arranged in ways that make it easy to use (such as, with lounge spaces close to work stations). Movement is important, he says, but so is relaxing.

And since stress is the cause of a lot of overeating, Green notes, furniture can fight fat by lowering stress. In other words, comfortable furniture can reduce the need for comfort food.

The Roy Morgan research, which has reportedly left obesity experts “in despair”, found the towns of Dubbo, Orange, Bourke and Broken Hill have just over 70 per cent of their population classified as overweight or obese, giving the western region the dubious honour of being the state’s fattest.

Close behind is the south coast, including the towns of Kiama, Batemans Bay and Eden, where 68 per cent of the population is categorised as fat.

North Sydney, however, boasts the highest number of people with an acceptable weight – 44 per cent.

The Roy Morgan research of 20,000 people has pinpointed the South Australian towns of Mount Gambier, Bordertown and Naracoorte as the nation’s fattest, with 79 per cent of the population reporting they are overweight or obese.

Dietitian Duncan Hunter said the figures showed those most at risk of being overweight lived outside capital cities.

“These people are isolated from healthcare, cheap good food and physical activity,” he said.

Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute’s Professor Paul Zimmet said the solution was to make cheap, healthy food more available, make the fight against obesity part of urban and workplace planning, embed healthy eating and exercise in daily life and make it part of school education. “The fight against obesity matters because it contributes to diabetes, heart disease, certain cancers and obstructive airways disease,” he said.

Professor Zimmet said he worked on the government’s Preventative Health Taskforce, which four years ago made recommendations to combat obesity.

“I despair … the government just cherry-picked the easy stuff,” he said.

Obesity is expected to cut the lifespan of the next generation by two years and cost the nation $8.3 billion in 2008.

The Preventative Health Taskforce predicted in 2008 that by 2025, 73 per cent of Australians would be overweight or obese but the Roy Morgan data from 2012 shows this forecast has already been exceeded in some towns. Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show in 2011-12, 63 per cent of adults were overweight or obese, up from 61 per cent four years ago.
